I am listening….

So, what I have learned from you…..

What have I learned from lovely my customers?

Most of all I have learned to listen!

Not every idea is a flyer from the start, but I take everything into consideration.

Some ideas are technically impossible. My experience in working with clay for more than 20 years taught me a few things! I am always prepared to try……

I describe here some examples of successfully “converted” design with customer input!

Poppy Seed Heads: colour matters

Development of colour for ceramic poppy seed heads

These days my poppy seed heads are so colourful, because of a passing comment by a visitor at Art in Action back in 2018.

I initially made the poppy seed heads natural colours: browns, darker greens and even black.

Until one of my customers said that she would like blue ones and other brighter colours.

This was the start of an ongoing journey into all sorts of colours and glazes for poppy seed heads….. Explore all the vibrant variety in my shop

Poppy Seed Heads: size matters

Size comparison: Large and small ceramic poppy seed head

Sticking with the theme of poppy seed head.

Poppy Seed Heads were really large to start with, so they can be displayed in the garden on a bespoke metal stake to stand proudly above the plants.

My customers mentioned more and more that if they were smaller, they could even be displayed in the house!

Hence the development of the smaller poppy seed heads. And they do look fab in peoples houses as well as gardens as seen below…..

Mugs: Style matters

Away from poppy seed heads my next topic is: Mug design.

I don’t know how many different shapes and sizes of mugs there are?! They are countless……

It was very difficult deciding on a shape to make.

Until I got a small commission with precise instruction on shape and size:

Create a Tankard style mug, the base broader than the top. A mug, which one can’t easily knock over and is large enough for holding a decent volume of tea, so it doesn’t need a re-fill in quite some time!

Since then I have been making loads of those!!

It really pays to speak to customers and I am always listening…..
